SERVICES
AREAS OF EXPERIENCE
I have worked with a wide range of people from differing backgrounds,
cultures, and ages. Clients present
their difficulties in many ways, and no two are ever the same. The mental health profession has a system of
categorizing peoples’ symptoms and it is often helpful for clients to view
their symptoms through a similar lens. I
have experience of working with clients whose symptoms fall into the following
categories;
I also have extensive training as a Medical Family Therapist (MedFT), and practice of working with clients who
experience chronic medical conditions.
Mental health symptoms often co-occur with chronic physical conditions,
such as chronic pain, diabetes, cancer, and terminal illness. It is important that the mental symptoms are
treated alongside the physical symptoms to fully help clients and their
families work through the pain and distress of the chronic illness experience. You can read more about Medical Family Therapy through this link.
Finally, a word about relationships. It is very rare that people function through life entirely alone; our natural human tendency is to exist in some form of social system, be it with family, friends, or partners, and yet human relationships can be the source of both our greatest support and our toughest challenges. I encourage clients to bring their relationships to therapy. Relational therapy gives individuals the opportunity to explore their significant relationships as well as themselves within those relationships, and when successful can enhance both the relationship and the individuals within it. Often when one person is identified as symptomatic, or having difficulties, working with that person and their family or social system significantly improves the outcome.
